The Grange Institution Celebrates Student Success at Japan Calligraphy Association Awards

The Grange Institution (TGI) is delighted to celebrate the achievements of our students at the Japan Calligraphy Association Awards.

Year 6 student, Yashiro Ren, has received the Educational Special Encouragement Award from the Japan Calligraphy Association. Ren’s exquisite calligraphy piece featuring the characters “平和” (Peace) has also been selected for exhibition in Japan.

Yashiro Ren received the Special Educational Encouragement Award from the Japan Calligraphy Association for excellence in Japanese calligraphy.

Ms. Eri Ohara, President of the Japan Calligraphy Association, commended Ren’s work and highlighted several strengths in his piece, which incorporated:

  • Strong mastery of foundational calligraphy techniques
  • Confident and controlled brushstrokes
  • Well-balanced character structure with precise spacing and proportion
  • A harmonious composition that beautifully expresses the concept of “Peace”

TGI is proud to recognise other students from the Japanese Language Programme who received awards for their calligraphy pieces:

  • Gold Award: Ko Yashiro, Tsukino Ikura, Yuriko Kimura
  • Silver Award: Branko Tutavac, Issei Enda, Kaoru Beppu
  • Bronze Award: Ena Kaneko, Eito Suwa, Konosuke Ishizuka, Yota Kimura
